The Faith Academy of Marble Falls football team will participate in its first scrimmage of the 2023 season when the Flames travel to Austin Veritas at 6 p.m. Friday. Aug. 11.
The Flames are one of six teams converging on Defender Field, 13401 Escarpment Blvd. in Austin. Austin St. Stephens and Smoking For Jesus are two other squads playing.
Faith head coach John Hallam said he’ll be looking for several traits from his team.
“I want to see the young guys be comfortable in knowing what to do on the field,” he said. “I want to see the older guys communicate. I want to see them come out healthy.”
Because of the number of programs playing, the field will be divided in half and will allow four opponents to play at the same time, while the other two teams rest. Each team’s offense and defense will receive 10 plays apiece. Faith will face all five opponents.
Hallam said Faith will stick to its base offense and defense.
“We don’t have everything installed,” he said.
He called the first week of fall training camp “excellent.”
“I was excited about a lot of the things I saw,” he said. “The team has done everything I’ve asked.”
The highlight was the two days spent hosting Veritas Aug. 1-2. On the second day, the programs divided into four teams for a 6-on-6 tournament. The coach said he enjoyed watching the players compete against one another for about two hours.
“That was the most exciting thing on that Wednesday, when we had that competition,” Hallam said. “Guys were really figuring things out for themselves.”
